NPL board gets 48-hour ultimatum on Ocean Boys
Nigeria Premier League (NPL) board has been given a 48-hour ultimatum to resolve the issue surrounding Ocean Boys’ controversial stay in the league in spite of complaints.
The trio of ace journalists Colin Udoh, Tosin Ibitoye and Bode Oguntuyi who issued the warning to the NPL through their legal counsel, Fred Agbaje Chambers in a letter dated September 3, 2012, warned the NPL to resolve matter quickly or face court action.
The letter which was made available to us on Tuesday noted that “Ocean Boys, a Club in the NPL, has failed to honour a total of four (4) league matches, three of them consecutively.”
They held that this development is “in clear breach of Article 4.2(3) of the NPL Rules” and therefore called on the executive board of the NPL to take the proper action.
They therefore demanded that “Ocean Boys be expelled without further delay and all its matches played and unplayed be cancelled forthwith in accordance with Article 4.2(3) of the NPL Rules.”
They noted that failure to do so within 2 days would result to the trio going before the court of law to institute necessary actions against the board.
“If you fail to comply with our demand within 48 hours by complying with the extant laws, we shall immediately proceed to the Federal High Court to compel your management to obey court injunction which we shall seek shortly,” the letter read.
This development comes just in time for the NPL executive board's meeting that started on Tuesday and runs till today. We gathered that the Ocean Boys saga is among issues on the agenda of the board headed by Victor Rumson Baribote.
