Ghanaian star, Ayew tips Lone Stars to beat Eagles

Andre Ayew
Ghanaian soccer star, Andre Ayew has tipped the Lone Stars of Liberia to defeat the Super Eagles of Nigeria when the two sides meet next month for the second leg of the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2013 qualifiers in Calabar, Cross River State.
Ayew told Liberian media after the Black Stars of Ghana fell 0-2 to the Lone Stars in an international friendly at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Stadium in Moronvia on Tuesday, September 11 that the Liberian team was good enough to cause an upset in Calabar.
The Marseille winger and son of Ghanaian football legend, Abedi Pele Ayew, praised the Lone Stars for its fighting spirit in the friendly match and noted that the same spirit could give it victory over Eagles. Ayew is in support of the AFCON 2013 ticket going to Liberia rather than Nigeria, saying he is confident that the Kaetu Smith-led team “can scale the hurdle against the Nigerians in their return encounter.”
“I love their spirit and mentality and I believe they can go to Nigeria and cause an upset,” Ayew told reporters.
“I am supporting them (Liberia) to qualify to the Nations Cup because it has been a long time since they’ve been there. They have a strong team which can surprise any side on a good day.”
The Eagles drew 2-2 with the Liberian team on Saturday, September 8 in Monrovia after a tough game that it came so close to losing.
Coach Stephen Keshi and several other stakeholders like the NFF president, Aminu Maigari have promised that the team would defeat the Liberians in Calabar and prove to Nigerians that it is worth a slot at the football tourney slated for South Africa in January, 2013.
