Eaglets crush Niger in Niamey

The national U17 team, the Golden Eaglets has inflicted a heavy defeat on its Nigerien counterparts in Niamey. The Eaglets defeated the Nigerien team 4-1.
The Eaglets on arrival in Niamey on Thursday promised to deliver brightly against the Junior Menas because they were in the best form of their lives for the first leg of the 2013 African Under-17 qualifier that was played at the Stade General Seyni Kountché (SGSK).
The players had a feel of the pitch of the 35,000 capacity multi-purpose stadium Friday evening and  confidently said  they would give a good account of themselves.
“We are ready to go and we are going to do our best to win this match against Niger,” said  soft-spoken captain, Musa Mohammed. “I’m confident because we have good players who are ready to help themselves to achieve glory.”
Before the qualifier against Niger, the Golden Eaglets had played 13 preparatory matches including two international friendly matches against Junior Wasps of Rwanda. The team had scored a total of 51 goals conceding just 10- an average of five goals per match.
Such impressive results buoyed up spirit in the team and Mohammed affirmed that the team had not been riding only on luck.
“We want to succeed in our careers and we know we can achieve much if we do well with the Golden Eaglets,” he stated matter-of-factly. "We always have this at the back of our mind anytime we are playing a match. The match against Niger is bigger than all our previous matches and we are going to approach the game with all seriousness.”
And the team has done it.
Meanwhile, the team's spokesperson, Morakinyo Abodunrin has revealed that team was camped in a shabby hotel. The name is Oasis Hotel.
According to him, there is nothing massive about the Oasis Hotel which is a far cry from the team’s posh Princeville Hotel camp in Calabar. Yet, the Golden Eaglets were not distracted as they hammered home the four goals today.
