Team Nigeria's target of 15 medals by the time the Paralympics ends on Sunday was given a boost on Wednesday when Anozie Grace handed the Team another powerlifting gold medal.
Anozie, who was competing in the women's +82.50kg category of the event lifted a 162kg weight to earn herself the medal. Egypt's Heba Ahmed and Mexico's Perla Barcenas settled for the silver and bronze respectively with lifts of 140kg and 135kg.
Earlier in the day, Obioma Aligekwe was not so lucky in the men's -100kg category of the event. He finished fifth with a lift of 225kg. Egypt's Mohammed Eldib won the gold with a world-record breaking 249kg lift. He was followed by China's Dong QI and Iran's Ali Sadeghzadehsalmani that picked the silver and bronze respectively with lifts of 242kg and 235kg.
Team Nigeria now has 12 medals to its credit. This comprise 6 gold, 5 silver and a bronze medal. As at the time of filing this report, Nigeria however remained 12th on medals table. But Nigeria maintains leadership of the powerlifting medals table.
