Erokoro, four others to represent Nigeria at MTN World Golfers tourney

Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Paul Erokoro at the weekened emerged as one of the five golfers that will represent Nigeria at the 2012 edition of the World Golfers Championship after two days of golf at the National Finals held in Akwa Ibom State.
The other four that qualified for the Global Finals of the championship that is slated for Durban, South Africa between October 27 and November 3, include Emmanuel Onamajuru, Sam Galadima, Usenobong Akpabio and Uko Urok that picked the slots after emerging top of their respective flights (categories).
The quintet emerged from a grand total of about 105 golfers that took to the field on Saturday, September 8 as the National Finals of the MTN World Golfers Championship officially teed off at just some minutes after 8am.
The first round ended on Saturday with the quartet of Emmanuel Onumaji, Paul Erokoro, Uro Urok and Usenobong Akpabio leading the four categories. Onumaji led the 0-5 category. Playing off Handicap 5, he finished with a gross score of 79 and net score of 74. Erokoro, playing off Handicap 12, finished with a gross score of 84 and net of 72 to lead the 11-15 category.
Leading the 21 – 25 category was Urok, who finished with a gross score of 95 and a net of 71. He was playing of Handicap 24. Akpabio was leader of the 16 – 20 category after the first round in which he finished with a gross score of 84 and a net of 68. He was playing off Handicap 16.
The second round of the MTN World Golfers Championship began on Sunday, September 9 with golfers teeing off as early as 7.30am with the aim of overthrowing the quartet that emerged leaders of the four categories after play on the first Day of the championship.
But Erokoro, Urok, Galadima, Onamajuru and Akpabio were the lucky five that would be heading to Durban, South Africa for the global finals of the World Golfers Championship which is slated for late October. Apart from Galadima, all the golfers led their respective categories after play on Day 1 and only improved on their scores to win the categories.
According to Obinna Duru, one of the directors of Global Golf Limited, main organisers of the event, the team will depart for South Africa on October 26.
