NFF, NPL head for showdown

NFF President, Aminu Maigari

A showdown is currently brewing between the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and the Nigeria Premier League (NPL) over management of funds within the two national football bodies, we can authoritatively report.
Newsblitzz gathered that NPL boss, Victor Rumson Baribote has officially written to the NFF demanding that the Aminu Maigari-led board provide him with details of financial transactions of the body. He made the call on the basis of his capacity as second vice president of the NFF.
This development follows a similar directive issued to the NPL by the NFF some weeks ago after dust was raised over management of funds by the league body.
A source in the know revealed that the NPL boss was ready to give everything it takes to deal with the NFF for portraying him in bad light.
"NPL Chair wrote officially to NFF asking to know how monies have come in and gone out in his capacity as NFF 2nd VP.
"NPL Chair says if they (NFF) think he would go down without a fight, then they must be joking. He will take many of them (NFF) with him,” the source said.
The NFF is however yet to confirm receipt of such a letter.
The differences between the two bodies deepened when the NFF refused to allow NPL Congress, slated for Kano this Saturday to hold. According to the NFF, there were too many unsolved issues on ground that needed to be addressed before the congress could go ahead.
The impasse between the two bodies could keep the premier league from beginning on December 1st as earlier scheduled.
A source close to the NPL management admitted being unsure that the league would kick off on that day. “I don't think so, but let us wait to see,” was the reply to whether the league would kick off.
