NFF President, Aminu Maigari |
A new twist emerged in the various issues
bedeviling the holding of the Annual General Assembly of the Nigeria Football
Federation (NFF) slated for Port Harcourt in December as State FA chairmen have
vowed not to attend over the choice of venue, we can authoritatively report.
Our correspondent gathered that board members are
divided over the announcement of Port Harcourt as venue for the AGM and the FA
chairmen have stated their displeasure with the arrangement.
The position of the FAs was made known on Wednesday
by NFF Chairman of Chairmen, Effiong Johnson who was quoted as saying “Even if
NFF insist Annual General Assembly goes on in Port Harcourt, the State FA
Chairmen won’t go!”
Johnson attacked Vice Chairman, NFF Disciplinary Committee,
Iyke Igbokwe, accusing him of ‘speaking irresponsibly’.
NFF has been having problems fixing the date for
the AGM with the December choice not yet fully confirmed. The kick against Port
Harcourt by the FA chairmen will further withhold the General Assembly at which
the NFF is expected to reach new decisions.
The NPL’s own congress has already been called off
indefinitely following a direct order from the NFF for it to be put on hold
pending when salient matters facing the league board was resolved.
