Kadiri Ikhana, Super Falcons coach |
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has disbanded
the Super Falcons team that just returned from the Africa Women Championship
(AWC) in Equatorial Guinea.
Our correspondent gathered that the NFF which had
been working on punitive measures for the team after the poor showing at the
AWC decided to axe the squad and bring up a totally new one that would include
players from the lower cadres such as Flamingoes and Falconets.
The NFF rued the team’s poor performance and
promised to ensure such never happens again.
Meanwhile, the Federation has said that it is yet
to get the resignation letter of Coach Kadiri Ikhana who led the team to
Equatorial Guinea. According to NFF, the tactician was yet to file in his
resignation.
Ikhana, on his return to Nigeria from Equatorial
Guinea on Monday, announced his resignation, remaining true to his words before
the championship that he would not to wait to be fired if he failed at the AWC.
“There is a contract and the contract is clear. I
am a principled person. If I fail to win the AWC I will not wait for the NFF, I
know what to do,” he had said.
But the NFF claimed that Ikhana is yet to make it
official.
