Newcastle United striker Shola Ameobi has been dropped from Stephen Keshi's national squad to the Africa Cup of Nations in January.
Ameobi, we gathered was withdrawn from Nigeria's African Cup of Nations squad after 'private talks' was held between the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew.
Ameobi that made his first appearance for Nigeria in the 3-1 defeat of La Vinotinto of Venezuela on November 14 in Miami, Florida received a call up from Coach Keshi on Friday. But he will not be playing for Nigeria as Newcastle has begged for him to be left out of the squad.
Attempts to get the NFF's position on Monday proved abortive as calls to the Federation's spokesperson Ademola Olajiire and other officials did not go through.
Meanwhile, we gathered that Danny Shittu of second-tier English football side Millwall FC might also not be joining the team's camp in Faro, Portugal as his coach Kenny Jackett 'expects him to reject' the offer to return to the Super Eagles.
